Gather at Hurricane Hill

Passionate about small farms, the environment, land conservation, forests, rare breeds or the future of pollinators? Care about antidotes to fast fashion, wool as a renewable fiber, no-mow lawns, natural dyeing and native plants?

Trying to spread the good word about a sustainable future?

We’d love to talk to you!

In addition to the programs we run here at the farm, Hurricane Hill provides an affordable, no-frills space for small gatherings that relate to the concerns our farm addresses through our own work and practices and our commitment to an environmentally just future. We can’t do it all by ourselves so we offer our farm to others with similar goals to help secure the future of Rhode Island’s increasingly threatened and precious ecosystem.

THE BARN:

This is a 1,600 square foot space: Huge sliding barn doors open onto a wide green space surrounded by native plantings and the east-facing french doors lead to a seasonable vegetable, berry and herb garden with a large fire pit and seating. The barn is accessible via private entrance at 686 Natick Avenue. Overflow parking is handled in a nearby field. We offer chairs and miscellaneous folding tables as part of your rental (see below).

4) Add ons: Shepherds Drake and Wright are available for tours during your gathering and Drake offers customized talks on a variety of subjects including the history of New England sheep keeping, local fiber production traditions, and the role of indigo in the 18th century. We gladly entertain inquiries on additional topics to be presented by us or by others with whom we collaborate (advance notice is required). We also partner with our friends at Blue Dog Dye House to offer on-farm workshops in natural and botanical dyeing. Price on request.

Notes:

*payments are expressly accepted as donations to the farm’s mission and while they are not tax-deductible, they are gratefully acknowledged by us as a means towards continuing our work of rare breed preservation, land conservation and education around small farms in the modern world.

lower rates for non-profits in the arts, food and farming sectors may be offered at the owners’ discretion.

Other things to be aware of :

Our barn does not have restroom facilities so most you will need to plan to rent portable restrooms. During out high season (mid-May to mid-October) we can provide one ‘regular’ portajohn (an additional cleaning fee may be required ). During the off-season, we do not provide a portajohn, so you would need to provide. We also only have running water (through a hose) in warm weather.

You may need to take out a day-of insurance policy-these are quite affordable and important to protect you and us!

The thing we most want you to know is that we will work with you to find just the right fit for you-our goal is always to manage a low- stress, affordable rental space in an otherwise complex market.
