Two Black Sheep Blanket
Two Black Sheep Blanket
Limited-edition rare breed blanket from our flock of Leicester Longwool sheep. Grown on Hurricane Hill Farm in Rhode Island, processed in Connecticut at Still River Mill and woven by Bedfellows Blankets in Massachusetts.
Each blanket tells the story of one specific year on our farm (no two blankets are the same and no year’s batch will be the same). Two Black Sheep Blankets represent the strong history of wool production in New England.
Despite this history, very few fiber farms remain in Rhode Island; ours is currently the only farm raising this rare breed-a breed that was once a common sight on early American farms. Today, mills and weavers that will handle small wool “harvests” like ours are also few in number. That’s starting to change, but there is more to do. Your purchase of a Two Black Sheep Blanket helps our and others’ work to renew wool’s rightful place in a sustainable future.
Wool is an extraordinary fiber: it is a renewable, farm-raised resource and it is fullycompostable. More importantly, wool is uniquely positioned to serve a variety of purposes from building insulation to garden amendment and, of course, clothing and bedding. WOOL IS COOL!
